Dental implants

The ideal, natural-looking option

Do you:
  • Hide your smile because of spaces from missing teeth?
  • Feel your dentures are not secure?
  • Have difficulty chewing?
  • Wish you could smile, speak and eat in comfort and with confidence, but are missing one or more teeth?
If so, then dental implants are for you. Commonly referred to as the 'third set' of teeth after the first two have been lost (baby teeth, adult teeth), dental implants can replace any number of teeth, from a single tooth to a complete set.

What exactly are dental implants?

A dental implant is commonly made of titanium, a metal that is well-tolerated by the body, which is placed into the jawbone. It is used to support one or more false teeth. A small attachment at the top of the implant emerges through the gum. Crowns, bridges or dentures can then be attached to the implant by screws or clips.

For people in good general health who have lost a tooth or teeth due to disease, an injury, or some other reason, dental implants are an ideal option. They are so natural-looking; you may forget you ever lost a tooth!

How long does it takes to place the implant with the crown?

There are 2 protocoles for implant placement after tooth extractions:

Immediate implantations : Extraction of the teeth and implant placement immediatly after extraction ( same day, same surgery)
Delayed implantations: Extraction, than implant placement after more than 2 months.

There are 3 protocoles for implant loading ( placing the crowns over the implants):

- Immediate loading protocols: Placing the implant and taking impressions at the same session. Placing the crown after 2-7 days.
Early Loading: Placing the crown 3-4 weeks after implant placement. This early loading could be done through the enhanced SLAcitve surface of the ITI Staumann.

Straumann implants are mainly divided into 4 groups depending on their macro and micro geometry.
Macro Geometry: Standard Plus or Bone Level.
Micro Geometry: SLA or SLActive implant surface.

I also like, recommend and prefer the Straumann latest Bone Level implant .
SLActive : http://www.straumann.com/ci_ch_presskit_slactive_ids07.pdf

The SLActive surface allows early loadings ( 3-4 weeks).

So, the best case scenario is: immediate implantations with immediate loading. Which means performing extraction, than implant placement, than placing the definitive crowns, all in a period of 3-7 days.

How long do dental implants last?

Dental implants have been used for over 30 years to replace missing teeth. Depending upon how you look after them, they can last a lifetime.

Dr Maxim Baini has a university higher study certificate in periodontology and dental implants. He has a wide experience in the top leading implant types including Straumann,BT Lock, Zimmer, Ferrari, 3i, Replace Select, Branmark...We are proud to have placed more than 400 implants with a very high success rate.

For anyone seeking the optimal method of replacing missing teeth, dental implants are rapidly becoming the preferred treatment. They offer an immediate and permanent solution for people with missing teeth and for those losing their teeth.

The procedure

Under a local anesthetic, implants are placed during a small operation.

The gum where the implant is to be placed is cut and lifted. A small hole is drilled in the jawbone at the precise location of the intended implant. The titanium implant is tightly fitted into this socket and the gum is stitched back over the implant. If there is insufficient bone material to accommodate the implant, a bone graft may be required, .

You may feel a very little discomfort after the operation due to stitches and the normal healing process.

After they have been placed, your implants will need to bond with the bone. This can take about 8 weeks. If you are having one, two or three teeth replaced, you will have a temporary restoration in the meantime. If you have complete dentures, then you can wear them throughout the healing period once they have been adjusted after the surgery.

Now, we the help of the CBCT X-Ray technology, we can visualize the bone volume in three dimensions before the implant placement. When adequate bone volume is present, we perform the flapless implant placement. Which means that we place the implant without incisions, without raising a flap. With this technique the dental implant will be placed within about 7 minutes. After the implant placement, there will be no stitches, no bleeding, and no pain. On single tablet of painkiller will be enough, as there will be almost no pain nor discomfort. Most of our patients benefit from the flapless implant placement. When which perform such technique, we are all very much pleased ( Patient and operator).
